In February of 2022, we welcome pianist Robert Auler as our guest soloist for George Gershwin's iconic "Rhapsody in Blue", as we explore the impact of the music of the South on the development of American symphonic and popular music. You will hear the Latin rhythms of Louis Gottschalk's Symphony No. 2, the sounds of the work songs of the American south in Kenji Bunch's "Supermaximum", and even the sounds of early 20th-century Charleston in “Charlestonia”, an American rhapsody by Charleston's own native son: Edmund Thornton Jenkins.
